As thousands of people are out grocery shopping to prepare for Hurrican Dorian’s arrival, thousands more are waiting patiently from updates about food assistance from The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF).
The United States Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, provides food benefits and access to a healthy diet to low-income households.
On its website, DCF says current updates as it pertains to Hurricane Dorian will be posted on a regular basis but it’s been two days since they’ve said anything at all.
Multiple people have reached out to First Coast News looking for information about SNAP benefits, with fears that they will not be able to properly prepare for the oncoming storm.
On Friday, a representative for the DCF said that an update on the benefits would be coming soon, but did not release any information about when that may be.
